Course description

This course delves into the application of medical and anthropological principles in legal investigations. It covers forensic pathology, human identification techniques, analysis of skeletal remains, and determination of cause and manner of death. Students learn to interpret post-mortem changes, trauma analysis, and the medico-legal significance of findings. The course also introduces forensic odontology and DNA profiling. It is essential for students pursuing forensic science, medicine, or law enforcement careers.

What will i learn?

  • Identify different stages of post-mortem changes, determine time since death, manner of death and cause of death;
  • Identify the race, age and sex of an individual from bones, skull or dentition found in cases of mass disaster or as a form of evidence.
  • Skills to analyse the signs and symptoms for different post-mortem and anti-mortem examinations; different types of injuries and their medicolegal aspect.
  • Demonstrate about wildlife forensics, major type of crimes occurring and different steps taken by the government to protect them.
