Shellfish are aquatic invertebrates with exoskeletons, including crustaceans (like crabs and shrimp) and mollusks (like clams and oysters). They have diverse body structures, often with segmented bodies or hinged shells. Many shellfish use gills for respiration and filter-feed on plankton. Their biology supports various ecosystems and provides valuable resources for human consumption.
