Course description

This course provides an introduction to hydrocarbons, covering their classification, properties, and significance in various industries. Students will learn about alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and aromatic hydrocarbons, along with their physical and chemical behaviors. The course also explores hydrocarbon extraction, refining processes, and environmental impacts. Practical applications in petrochemicals, energy production, and organic synthesis are discussed.

What will i learn?

  • Students will have a firm knowledge in the fundamentals and application of current chemicals and scientific theory including those in Analytical, Inorganic, Organic and physical chemistries
  • Research and Problem solving by predicting the functional group transformations, simple reaction mechanism, and the synthesis of organic molecules by multistep synthesis strategies
  • Design and development of Scientific experiments as well as accurately record and analyze the results of such experiments
  • Investigation, judgement and communication to explore new areas of research in both chemistry and allied fields of science and technology
