Course description

Soil and water conservation through watershed management focuses on protecting and restoring land and water resources by implementing sustainable practices. A watershed is a natural drainage area where rainwater collects and flows into rivers, lakes, or groundwater. Conservation efforts include afforestation, contour farming, terracing, check dams, and rainwater harvesting to prevent soil erosion, improve water retention, and enhance groundwater recharge. These strategies help maintain soil fertility, support agriculture, and reduce the risk of droughts and floods. Effective watershed management ensures long-term environmental sustainability, benefiting both ecosystems and communities by promoting water security and land productivity.
