Course description

Systemic virology focuses on the study of viruses and their effects on the entire body, including how they infect cells, replicate, and cause diseases. It involves identifying viral pathogens, understanding their transmission, and developing vaccines or antiviral drugs. Mycology, the study of fungi, examines their role in health and disease, including pathogenic fungi that cause infections in immunocompromised individuals. Both fields utilize molecular biology techniques to identify and classify pathogens. Their research helps inform public health responses and treatment strategies for viral and fungal infections.

What will i learn?

  • The course provides the conceptual basis for understanding pathogenic microorganisms and the mechanisms by which they cause disease in the human body. Know the methods used in studying viruses and fungi. Recall the relationship of this infection to symptoms, relapse and the accompanying pathology. Explain the methods of microorganism’s control, e.g. chemotherapy & vaccines. Solve problems in the context of this understanding.
